local eu statement on the recent attack on a roma camp
by a radical group in lviv, ukraine
the european union delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the eu heads of mission in ukraine.
"on 23 june, a 24-year-old roma man was stabbed to death, in an attack on a roma settlement in lviv. four other people were injured, including a woman and a 10-year-old boy. we offer our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person killed, and a swift recovery to those who were injured.
such attacks, as well as cases of intimidation, are unacceptable. while the ukrainian police in lviv responded to this incident in a prompt manner, it is vital that the country's law enforcement agencies take immediate, effective action to prevent and stop such acts and bring anyone found responsible to justice.
the eu's relationship with ukraine is based on common values. the eu attaches great importance to the rights of the roma, which continue to be a particularly vulnerable group in ukraine, and will continue to speak up in favour of their protection and their rights."
